Jersey probe criticism dismissed
The senior officer in an inquiry into allegations of child abuse at a former Jersey children's home has defended his decision to withhold information.
The discovery of what was thought to be part of a child's skull at Haut de la Garenne sparked a huge police search.
Deputy Chief Officer Lenny Harper said he thought disclosing later suspicion that the fragment was not bone would "distract from the inquiry".
Meanwhile, police confirmed some bone fragments found at the home were human.
'Distract attention'
So far, six milk teeth and 20 bone fragments have been found at the former children's home - some of which are human. These are currently being DNA tested and carbon dated.

JERSEY PROBE POLICE CHIEF SUSPENDED
The £4.5 million child abuse inquiry on Jersey is in disarray after a police chief was suspended for his role in a discredited murder investigation.
Graham Power, the most senior officer in the force, was suspended after Deputy Chief Officer David Warcup dismissed the evidence collected and said there were no suspicious deaths at former children's home Haut de la Garenne.
"There is no suggestion there has been murder or any bodies destroyed," said Mr Warcup.

'Evidence' of murders at children's home on Jersey dismissed
The £4.5m inquiry into child abuse on Jersey described as a shambles as senior police officer Graham Power is suspended

Graham Power was suspended after his force was accused of releasing information that was 'not stricly accurate'
The £4.5 million inquiry into child abuse on Jersey was described as a shambles last night as the island’s most senior officer was suspended for his role in the investigation.
Graham Power was suspended after his own investigators accused his force of releasing information — suggesting that children had been dismembered and their bodies burnt at a children’s home — that was “not strictly accurate”.
The investigators, who took over the inquiry after deputy police chief Lenny Harper retired in August, said that there was nothing to support suggestions that there had been any murders. They dismissed evidence gathered by Mr Harper’s team.
Shortly afterwards, Chief Officer Power walked into BBC Radio Jersey’s newsroom in St Helier and announced that he had been suspended by the island’s recently appointed Minister for Home Affairs.
