WIKIPEDIA

The disappearance in Veria of Alex Mechisvili, an eleven year old boy of Georgian descent living in northern Greece, after revealing to his parents that he had seen "what happens to kids who are not supervised by anyone," has galvanized the Greek public. While five local children have confessed to the murder, the body has never been found, and their story is not universally believed. When the local Roma clan head, reputed to be the crime boss of Veria was questioned by the mother of the missing child about his possible complicity, he is reputed to have answered, "No. We don't steal children that old."

In Veria the afternoon of that day, were lost mysteriously the traces of 11 year old student, Alex Meschisbili.

Aggeliki Nikoloyli immediately dealt with the affair of disappearance through the emission “Light in the Tunnel”. Researches that she made in Veria, led, 40 days after the disappearance, to the localisation of one of the five “hard” students and from the dialogue she had with him she occupy that childrens gang found itself behind this thriler.

The version that presented the journalist in the Authorities of the city, was considered then extreme. The police officers believed that the kid was abducted from his father in Russia or from his uncle in Germany. The journalist searched this version and she gave through her emission the negative answer of Interpol, compelling the police to search again in the city.

She helped in deed the Authorities presenting serious witnesses that saw the children of gang in the street of Alex. On 2 of June, one of the gang of minors admits in the Police of Veria that it killed with the other children Alex Meschisbili. The Authorities then did not considered right to entertain the infringing minors in suitable spaces until they reveal to them that they disappeared the corpse of Alex.

They thus lost precious time and the corpse of the unfortunate student was never found.

A Special Interrogator dealt initially with the affair of murder and Angeliki Nikoloyli deposited the results of her researches. Then afterwards Public prosecutor dealt with the case.

The last one deposited on 22 of June 2007 proposal in the Judicial panel of the court of appeals asking:

· The reference in the One-member Court of Minors of Veria, of the five minors with the category of homocide from intention with potential deceit in degree of felony and outrage of the dead.

· The reference in the same court of the other underage brother of two children, with the category of the false deposit at continuation and covering of the criminal action.

· The trial in Three-member Misdimianour court Veria of grandfather of two Greek children for the categories of the perjury at continuation and the covering of criminal action at continuation as well.

· The reference of six parents of five underage defendants in One-member Magestry of the court appeals of Veria for the category of neglect of monitoring of minors.

Penal prosecutions have been also practised against five police officers of Imathia, that had undertaken the research in the particular affair. The police officers are persecuted for infringement of duty, because they didn’t act as they should.

The public prosecutor of the court of appeals reports also that according to the research, the corpse of the unfortunate Alex was drifted by waters of river in Mparmpouta, led to the estuaries of Aliakmona and from there most likely is to find in Thermaikos Gulf.

The research of also two judges did not consolidate the version of pederasty, that some people presented as motive.

About me

Our 11-year-old son disappeared without trace from the centre of Veria on 3rd February 2006 at 7.00p.m. No one saw anything unusual that night. Our search for him was carried out on an international scale. On 2nd June 2006, without letting us know beforehand, the police started excavating beside the Town Hall of Veria. Frantically,we asked the police what was going on and they replied that they had been lookihg into the case and had discovered a gang of 5 juveniles who had connfessed to killing our son.three subsequently retract their confession, saying they were playing a hoax on the police. Two continue to confess to murder and also implicate three adults who helped them. Despite all this, the police are incapable of solving the case, while at the same time they obstinately refuse to search for the body of our son...

Five teens convicted for death of schoolboy

A Thessaloniki court yesterday convicted five adolescents of killing 11-year-old Georgian schoolboy Alex Meshivili in the northern town of Veria nearly three years ago but shed no light on what has become of the boy’s remains.

According to the youth court, the boys, who had all been aged between 11 and 12 at the time of the killing, were guilty of inflicting non-premeditated grievous bodily harm.

Two Greek brothers are to be transferred to a juvenile delinquent facility in the central town of Volos until they reach the age of 18.

The other three children – an Albanian, a Romanian and an ethnic Greek from Albania – are to be placed in the custody of state child-protection services until they turn 18.

The ethnic Greek from Albania is the only one of the defendants to have admitted to having any role in the sequence of events that led to Meshivili’s death.

According to court testimonies, the children harassed and beat the 11-year-old without intending to kill him. Meshivili died after falling down some stairs and his body was then transferred to a construction site, the court concluded. What became of the boy’s body after that is still not clear.

Yesterday’s verdict followed four months of hearings during which some 100 witnesses were questioned.

“This decision finally eradicates the gangrene that has been eating at the heart of (Meshivili’s) mother,” the president of Thessaloniki’s youth court said on announcing the verdict. Natela Meshivili was not in court yesterday and her lawyer refused to comment on the verdict.

Thanks lina_gr for the update.

As these teenage boys have been convicted I am going to move the case to our 'closed cases' section. Hopefully one day this young boy's body will be found so he can be laid to rest peacefully.
