Timeline of Tuesday's Search for Missing Teen
Allison "Alliy" Bayliss, a sophomore at San Ramon Valley High, was reported missing and at-risk of harming herself Monday.
By Elizabeth Shemaria and Kyle Bonagura

Tuesday, May 24

UPDATE: 8:51 p.m. Howard Levitt, director of communications for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, said the search for Alliy Bayliss was called off at 9 p.m. Tuesday because of darkness. Authorities will continue the search at first light Wednesday.

Levitt said the best thing for concerned community members to do is to "continue to get the word out to the broader community," rather than helping with a physical search.

Missing Danville Teen’s Bike Found In San Francisco
Posted: 7:45 am PDT May 24, 2011
Updated: 4:10 pm PDT May 24, 2011

DANVILLE, Calif. -- A massive search for a missing Danville teenager moved to San Francisco early Tuesday after her abandoned mountain bike was found near Crissy Field.

Allison "Alliy" Bayliss’ father, David, said a note left by the 15-year-old girl on her computer had led the family and searchers to San Francisco’s Presidio area. David Bayliss and a friend had searched about two miles of the waterfront before finding the purple and black Diamondback mountain bike locked in a stand.

“We found the bike,” David Bayliss told KTVU as he stood with San Francisco police officers near Crissy Field. “We found a note on her computer with directions to this location.”

UPDATE: Searchers Scouring San Francisco Bay for Missing Teen's Body

'It's a terrible tragedy. I think this community went from being hopeful to having our worst fears realized.'
By Kyle Bonagura and Elizabeth Shemaria

Today officials with the California Highway Patrol announced that the search for missing Danville teen Alliy Bayliss has switched to a water recovery operation in the area near the Golden Gate Bridge, ending the ground search that began early Tuesday morning.

California Highway Patrol Captain Amy Mangan addressed the media with this statement:

"We have information that came to us in our search and rescue efforts yesterday as well as our investigative efforts that indicates Allison walked onto the Golden Gate Bridge shortly after 10 a.m., on Monday morning. It does not appear Allison walked off the Golden Gate Bridge. Our investigative efforts now switch to one of a possible suicide. The Danville Police Department is currently with Allison's family as well as staff from the Town of Danville to provide them council and support. The efforts of California Highway Patrol, U.S. Parks Police, National Parks Service, U.S. Coast Guard and the Golden Gate Bridge District will continue in our attempt to locate Allison."

Mangan went on to say they were not in the possesion of a suicide note and "unfortunately sometimes there is no recovery in these types of situations."

Suicide fears for popular missing teen after police say she walked on to Golden Gate Bridge and disappeared

The frantic search for a missing 15-year-old has likely come to an end after police say they believe she jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Allison Bayliss, from Danville, San Francisco, was last seen on Monday at Ramon Valley High School.
Her family reported her missing when she did not return from school.

Her father later found a note by her computer which led police to a nearby field where they found her bicycle.
They believe she took public transport to the bridge area and then abandoned her bike, which was found with the helmet on the handlebars.

A wide-scale search was then launched for the teenager - who friends and family called their 'Alliygator' because she was in the swimming club - with thousands of strangers helping.
A Facebook page was even set up to find her, called 'Help Find Allison Bayliss'.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Allison walked onto the Golden Gate Bridge on Monday and never walked off it. Although police hinted at suicide, they have not yet confirmed it.

Search called off on SRV teen

More than 1,000 people dressed in blue gathered at the Danville Congregational Church on May 25 to remember the life of San Ramon Valley High School sophomore Allison Bayliss.

The vigil, which included prayers and the lighting of candles, was held because 15-year-old Danville student had not been missing for two days and was believed to have committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Various search teams across the Bay Area were dispatched on May 24 and hundreds of volunteers joined the search effort, including Cal High Principal Mark Corti’s son, Troy, who helped pass out flyers.

According to an article inthe San Francisco Chronicle, Allison was believed to have boarded a BART train in Dublin on the morning of May 23, and eventually rode her black and purple bike near the Golden Gate Bridge, where it was found the next day.

After reviewing video footage from the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco police confirmed that Allison was seen coming onto the bridge, but not coming off.

With this information, the police department stopped the search on May 25, switching

the case to a water recovery operation, in case of a possible suicide.

Allison’s body had not been recovered as of Wednesday, more than a week after her disappearance.

Local Teens Continue to Honor Alliy Bayliss' Memory

The loss last spring of Allison "Alliy" Bayliss, a San Ramon Valley High School sophomore, to suicide continues to be felt throughout the community. Two teens are honoring her with a special T-shirt.

Danville teen, Allison "Alliy" Bayliss may be gone, but she is not forgotten.

When San Ramon Valley High School students went back to school last week, the loss of the young woman, who would have been an incoming junior, still hurt.

Local teens Ryan Levenson and Jenna Mulvey wanted to do something to continue to remember Alliy, and the effect of her suicide on the community.

Levenson and Mulvey have designed a T-shirt to remember Alliy and they plan to begin selling it around Sept. 10.

Levenson says they plan to donate any proceeds to the Bayliss family.

16 February 2012

Family of Danville Teen Who Committed Suicide Planning Awareness Benefit
The family of 15-year-old Allison Bayliss who committed suicide last May are in the planning stages of a benefit dedicated to bringing awareness to youth depression and suicide

Allison Bayliss's would have turned 16-years-old Feb. 7.

But last May, the 15-year-old Alliy -- as she was known -- left San Ramon Valley High School with her bike, took the BART into the city, rode and locked her bike up near the Golden Gate Bridge, and ultimately jumped.

Authorities never found her body.

Her father David spent his late daughter's birthday at a podium at Danville's Town Hall seeking approval for an Alliy's Hope Foundation benefit walk/run through the city. The goal of the foundation and the event, he said, is to bring awareness to youth depression and suicide.

"Alliy had a several year struggle with depression that led her to commit suicide," he said. "Today is Alliy's birthday. She would be 16. ... With this (event), we want to bring awareness to youth depression and support to our community."

Alliy's suicide affected the whole community, Bayliss said, but the community strengthened the family in the days, weeks, and months following her suicide. He said this is a way to give back to that community and put a spotlight on youth depression.

According to National Center for Health Statistics:
•Suicide is the sixth leading cause of death among those 5-14 years old.
•Suicide is the third leading cause of death among those 15-24 years old.

The event he discussed with council would take place Aug. 12, on an early Sunday morning, if approved. It would be a mile walk/run that would close down Hartz Avenue from San Ramon Valley High School to Hartz Way and also the northbound lane of Railroad Avenue.

The members of the Town Council expressed sympathy for the Bayliss family. It also expressed concerns with the nuts and bolts of the current plan. Various members of council raised issues with the plan's street closures, the affect the benefit might have on downtown businesses, and that it is too close to another street closure for the Danville Thursday Night Street Festival on Aug. 9.

"I'm aware of the town's policies on new events. We're a non-profit, not a for profit, and it's not just another event," Bayliss said. "It will truly benefit our community."

He added that 96 percent of the businesses along the route would be closed during the event and those that are open, he said, would stand to benefit from attendees as these businesses are food and beverage service establishments.

"I absolutely have no idea and cannot imagine what you and your family have gone through," Councilman Robert Storer said. "You've taken a negative situation and turned it into a positive."

He asked Bayliss if he thought about having the event on Iron Horse Trail to avoid street closure. Bayliss said that though Iron Horse Trail is an option, the level of awareness wouldn't be the same. "We could do a mile on Iron Horse Trail but we want to bring the maximum amount of awareness," Bayliss said.

Council didn't vote on anything last Tuesday and requested that Bayliss continue to speak with staff to discuss options that would satisfy all parties.

"Let' see what we can do with staff, looking at the dual street closures, looking at alternative routes," Danville Mayor Candace Andersen said. "Ideally, we'd love to see this event without a street closure and avoid a very minimal impart on the community."

Though the city raised these particular concerns, each member of council expressed their desire to work with Bayliss and make the event happen.

"I and my wife will help you anyway we can," Councilman Mike Doyle, said.
