I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to make this another "Maddy". I think the World should take notice of how the McCann's have publicized her disappearance. Although they have not seen the fruit from their labors, you never know when that one piece of critical information will come in. If it were my child, I would want to explore every available option.

They have probably been put off by the way the press have treated the McCanns, even though IMO, Gerry and Kate were only doing what was suggested in a handbook produced to help parents in this situation. They would appear to have had a lot of good contacts too of course.

I actually downloaded this survival guide myself, about a month ago. I can understand them not wanting a circus. However, they can't be personally responsible for the press and what they print. That just goes along with the territory. I'm sure their daughter would want them to make this a "Maddy" too.....bless her heart. I hope that she will be O.K. regardless.

it's scary because Madeleine's disappearance has set a precident. whether its a good one or a bad one remains to be seen in most peoples eyes. IMO I think it's a good thing, ALL missing kids should have the same amount of publicity, becasue if we are all shouting from the rooftops about kids missing, it may put abductors off from taking a child.

I think you are right CAM, I know they probably don't want the media circus which did unfold but it was the press who were in a frenzy, clamboring over eachother in those first few days in PDL, and who can blame the family for wanting to avoid that and people delving into their personal lives .
TBH, I never said this earlier, I was a bit 'surprised' with the first few photos that were released of this girl especially if they think that she was possibly abducted, not the most discrete IMO and I am happy that they have changed these photos. But a distraught mother doesn't think straight. I do, also, find it odd that the family are not out canvassing and that the father hasn't come over but we don't know the family history and I shouldn't know more's the point. But this has been their home for 3 years, surely the neighbours would be out. Just goes to show the support that the McCanns had in PDL when the community did come together to look for Madeleine and highlight her disappearance. But here you have two extremes, The McCanns who are obviously a very tight knit family had people flying out to them and here you have the Fitzpatricks who don't or seem not to. Who knows what the best method is and I really do hope that the Fitzpatrick family get some hopeful news soon.
I really hope this girl turns up alive, but I hate to hear of girls this age going missing as they are growing into young women but are as vulnerable as a child. So sad.

In summary and in my own words;
The mother of Amy Fitzpatrick held a press conference today she has appealed to all ex-pat community to report anything suspicious and help with the search for Amy. She has thanked the media for reporting Amy's Disappearance. She has also asked the British Media to please cover the story and report it in the British public. She fears that the British ex-pat community do not know about Amy being missing and for how long as they tend to buy British papers. She thinks it is because Amy is Irish that they are not reporting it.
Note: The extended family have done interviews in Ireland and made an appeal.
The Irish reporter said that the family will not do individual interviews with journalists as they are finding it too traumatic but they will be holding press conferences inviting all media to attend until Amy is found. They are desperate to get Amy's disappearance public so ex-pats, holiday makers etc. know and will report anything suspicious that could hold the key in finding her.

It's so sad to read this about Amy. I know what you mean Vonb about still being vulnerable at this age. In the States last week a 24 year old girl went missing while jogging or on a trail. She was found yesterday and it is a gruesome tale. The killer was a 61 year old man and was the last one seen alone with her. I'm sure she didn't feel threatened by a 61 yr old man, probably thinking more grandfatherly. My husband read in the papers tonight that he lead them to her body in exchange for not getting the death penalty. Can you imagine this poor family and the lawyers making this type of plea deal? I can't. Especially under the circumstances of the crime.
I'm sure this is in the news. I haven't seen it in our Missing section but it could be there. Just trust me, you don't really want to know.
The best motto I guess is to not trust anyone. It's such a shame really. These perverts are loose and permitted to do this.

SO sorry to hear about Amy. I hope this case doesn't turn into another sad story. Unfortunately most do. Will keep her in my prayers. Maybe she ran away? I hope they find her. I do think the picture they're showing of her is a bit odd. Maybe that's the last picture they have of her?
Oh! The case CAM mentioned, the one about the hiker in the US really got to me. Her name is Meredith Emerson and she was only 24 and trying to enjoy a nice hike outdoors and then she vanished. I heard last night that they found her and was sickened to hear about the details. There are a few other homicides they are now trying to link with this guy. I can't believe this 61 yr old man is being charged with this. I mean 61 yrs old for God sake! She was just starting her life and he took it away from her. He might not get the death penalty for this particular case but if they can prove he did murder before, he might just get it after all.
