City police join investigation of missing child
The Mt. Carmel Police Department is investigating a report of a missing Mt. Carmel child who has been allegedly kidnapped by her uncle.
According to the police report filed by MCPD officers Greg Hart and Jared Price, missing is 4-year-old Taytum P. Lewis, whose birthday is Aug. 2, 2006 and who is described as a light skinned black female, approximately 3'2" and 50 lbs. She was taken to the Chicago area by her uncle, authorities indicated.
The suspect is John T. Mallory, 47, described as being a black male, approximately 6'2" and 240 lbs., black hair and brown eyes with a scar on the forehead and scar on his left hand. He reportedly took the child without the permission of the little girl's parents.
The last time Taytum was seen was approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 as she was taken by the suspect from another relative's home.
The suspect and juvenile were last seen in a 1998 white Chevy Conversion Van with Illinois license plate L880527, a vehicle reportedly owned by the mother of the child and which is reported as being stolen.
Chief Jeff Besing stated that the authorities in Chicago and Wisconsin along with the FBI have been contacted and forwarded copies of this report. Information has been received that the suspect has connections to the Wisconsin area as well.
Mt. Carmel Police Chief Jeff Besing early today reported authorities have no new developments to report in the case.
Anyone having information concerning the where-abouts of Taytum P. Lewis or who has seen the suspect (John T. Mallory) or the 1998 white Chevy Conversion Van should contact Chief Jeff Besing at the Mt. Carmel Police Department at (618) 262-4114 .

Suspect with Wisconsin ties reportedly kidnaps four-year-old niece
Wisconsin law enforcement officials have been notified of a suspect with ties to our state who may have kidnapped his four-year-old niece.
Mt. Carmel, Ill. Police say that Taytum Lewis was taken to Chicago by her uncle John Mallory.
She was last seen Saturday morning when Mallory allegedly took her from another relative's home.

Mallory, 47, and the child, Taytum Lewis, were located after his car was tracked to Chicago's Millennium Park. Mallory was taken into custody without incident. The girl does not appear to have been harmed, police said.

Girl, 4, found with uncle in Chicago after alert issued downstate
A man is in custody after he allegedly fled downstate Mount Carmel, with his young niece and was found with a stolen van in downtown Chicago this afternoon, officials said.
The 48-year-old man and the 4-year-old girl were found after their disappearance triggered an alert today that the two were last seen in a 1998 White Chevy conversion van, said Illinois State Police Spokeswoman Monique Bond.
Chicago police officials searched for the van utilizing a helicopter and Illinois State Police searched for the van on the ground, said Bond. The two agencies were coordinating search efforts, Bond said. The van, which was reported stolen by the girl's parents, was also equipped with a built in tracking device.
Officials eventually found the van near the intersection of Stetson Avenue and South Water Street, shortly after 2 p.m., said Bond.
While the van appeared to be abandoned at that location, police were able to find the man, who is a cousin of the girl's father, and the girl nearby, officials said.
No one appeared injured in the incident but the girl was taken to an area hospital to be checked out, Bond said.
