Detectives looking for Silverdale woman who fled with two children

‎Kitsap County Sheriff's detectives believe two children are in danger after their mother took them and left the area.

A warrant for first-degree custodial interference has been issued for Maria Claire Gowler, 46, formerly of Silverdale. Authorities believe she took her two children, Rebekah M. Gowler, 5 and Jacqueline M. Gowler, 23 months.

The 46-year-old does not have full custody of the children and they had been temporarily placed with her as she attempted to regain custody, according to a sheriff's office news release. Child Protective Services was to visit her June 29 and determine if the children could stay there permanently. But the woman and children were gone and appeared to have moved out.

Search on for woman on the run with 2 young girls

The search is on for a woman who is on the run with her two children.

Investigators said Maria Gowler took off with her daughters, 5-year-old Rebekah and 2-year-old Jacqueline, on June 29. They now believe the children are in danger.

Gowler was scheduled to meet with the Department of Social and Health Services last month to discuss whether she could keep custody of her kid, who had been temporarily placed back with their mother.

But when authorities arrived, they found computers and TVs missing from the Silverdale home, and the woman and her children gone.

Gowler has a history of leaving abruptly with only her electronic possessions, detectives said. She also has a history of narcotics abuse and suspected mental health issues, and is known to associated with felons and sex offenders.

Gowler has several other children from previous relationships, according to investigators. Those children have been removed from her custody due to child endangerment issues.
