Amber Alert issued for a missing 3-year-old East Lansing girl



An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing, three-year-old East Lansing girl.

The East Lansing Police Department says Amaya Marie Pernell was last seen at her mother's East Lansing address about 9:30p.m. Monday. Police say the child is believed to be in extreme danger.

Police say Amaya's father, Lester Pernell, forced his way into a unit at the Deerpath Apartments, assaulted Amaya's mother and then took the little girl from the scene.

The missing girl is African-American, 3 feet tall, 30 pounds, has brown eyes and black hair. The 28-year-old Lester Devon Pernell is 6 feet 6 inches tall, 220 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Amaya Marie Pernell update: Amber Alert canceled, suspect in custody

A Michigan Amber Alert issued yesterday for 3-year-old Amaya Marie Pernell has been cancelled after authorities recovered the missing girl safely. According to East Lansing police, the girl’s father, Lester Devon Pernell, assaulted Amaya’s mother before fleeing with the child. Authorities say that Amaya and her father, Lester Pernell were located at a relative’s home late Tuesday evening. Lester Pernell was taken into custody and faces charges of home invasion, domestic violence, interfering with electronic communications and kidnapping.
