Forest combed in hunt for Roma teen missing since 2008
Gardai investigating the disappearance of a Romanian teenager four years ago have launched a search operation in a forested area in west Wicklow.
Officers fear that Marioara Rostas, who was 18 when she went missing on January 6, 2008, was abducted, murdered and her body dumped in a remote area.
As a result of extensive inquiries into her disappearance, gardai are focusing their search on the Kippure estate between Manor Kilbride and the Sally Gap in Wicklow.
A full-scale search operation was launched yesterday and officers said it could continue until at least tomorrow evening.
Ms Rostas, of Corballis West, Donabate, in north Dublin, was reported missing by her parents after her brother spotted her getting into a car at Lombard Street East, near Pearse Street, in Dublin's city centre.
Gardai believe she had been befriended by a Dublin criminal, who offered her food and shelter and then abducted her.
Inquiries indicated she was taken to a house rented from the HSE in the south inner-city, where she was held against her will.

Gardai continue to search for body at forestry land in Kippure
A CONTINUING SEARCH for human remains at Kippure has so far uncovered no clues over the disappearance of a 19 year old Romanian girl who vanished two years ago.
Marioara Rostas was last seen begging at traffic lights in inner-city Dublin on January 2010 and it's believed she was murdered by a gangland criminal from Dublin's south inner city .
Ms Rostas, a member of the Roma community, had only been in Ireland for three weeks before she disappeared.
A garda helicopter and members of the Garda Technical Bureau have all been involved in the search which started on Wednesday and resumed on Monday after a break over the weekend.
The main focus of the search has concentrated on Coillte land close to the Kippure Estate and on the Manor Kilbride to Sally Gap road.

Gardaí discover bag during hunt for missing teenager
A bag containing what is believed to be human remains has been discovered by Gardaí, in relation to a search for a missing Romanian teenager.
The bag was uncovered during a dig on land near the Manor Kilbride area of the Wicklow Mountains, near Sally Gap.
Marioara Rostas, who was 18 when she went missing 6 January 2008, was last seen begging at traffic lights in Dublin city centre. It is feared that she was abducted, murdered and her body dumped.
Following a tip-off, a full scale search began on 11 January, with focus on the Kippure estate between Manor Kilbride and the Sally Gap in Wicklow.

Detectives shocked by brutal murder
The brutal murder of teenager Marioara Rostas, whose body was uncovered in a shallow grave in the Wicklow Mountains, has shaken even veteran detectives, investigators have revealed.
A post-mortem examination - which is not yet fully complete - confirmed the 18-year-old Romanian died from a gunshot wound after vanishing from a central Dublin street just weeks after arriving in Ireland four years ago.
Chief Supt Michael O'Sullivan described it as the most heinous of crimes which shocked all the investigating officers and experienced search teams who found her partially decomposed body on Monday. "I can say she suffered an appalling death that is incomprehensible in a civilised society," he said.
Gardai said they have made a significant advance in their inquiry into the killing which led them to the makeshift grave in remote wilderness close to the Kippure estate and the Sally Gap. The remains were wrapped in a plastic bag.

Thank you Twiggy for all the updates.
It has been a very harrowing week with the details of this case. On top of this, for some bizarre reason, tg can't quite speculate exactly why, Mariaora's body is in Ireland waiting to be repatriated home. It is going to cost 7,000 Euro and the Irish govt isn't paying it according to the Sunday World newspaper. Her family are here waiting. There is a fundraiser by the paper organized so I'm off to the bank to help in a little way. Apparently they are way off yet. I'm pretty sure for reasons as Gardai say themselves, Romany are treated as bottom of the pile. Oh the whole thing is so sad !!

There was also a vigil held for Marioara but I only heard about it post event. It happened in Dublin City Centre.
