Local authorities need to improve the way they record the number of children that go missing from care and care homes, a residential childcare expert has warned.
Normal 0 Figures recently released in the House of Commons Library are unreliable and do not give a clear picture of the problem, according to Jonathan Stanley, manager of the National Centre for Excellence in Residential Childcare. The records, which show a local authority breakdown of the number of children that go missing from care homes, are published along with the proviso that "the numbers should be treated with caution".
