Obituaries

Duncan and Jack Leichtenberg

LeROY -- Duncan Leichtenberg, 9, and Jack Leichtenberg, 7, of LeRoy, passed away at 7 p.m. Sunday (March 29, 2009) in Magnolia Township, Putnam County.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the LeRoy Christian Church, LeRoy. The Rev Tim Vollstedt will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the names of Duncan and Jack Leichtenberg. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, is handling arrangements.

Duncan was born Oct. 17, 1999, in Barrington, and Jack was born April 10, 2001, in Barrington, sons of Amy Verlee Leichtenberg.

They are survived by their mother, LeRoy; their maternal grandparents, Norman and Donna Leichtenberg, Sevierville, Tenn.; their paternal grandparents, Martin and Judy Connolly, Bradenton, Fla.; their paternal great-grandmother, Bernice Lemaich, Oak Lawn; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Duncan was in third grade and Jack was in second grade at LeRoy Elementary School. Both boys were on the wrestling team.

Duncan and Jack, Momma loves you to the heavens and back. I am sorry that this happened to you.

Connolly family deaths: LeRoy police rescinded call for Amber Alert shortly after request

A Downstate police department filed an Amber Alert request shortly after two brothers disappeared last month, but rescinded it almost immediately because department officials did not believe the boys were in danger, the Tribune has learned.

* How wrong they were!!

Leichtenberg, meanwhile, has taken measures to eliminate her sons' ties to their father. She filed a petition to legally change their last name to "Leichtenberg." "They are not going to be buried with the man's name who killed them," Tuley said.

* I can't say I blame her!!
