A 38-year-old Christchurch man has been arrested and charged with the murder and sexual violation of Christchurch teen Marie Davis.

The man will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.

Further remand for Marie Davis murder accused

The man accused of the sexual violation and murder of Christchurch teenager Marie Davis has been remanded in custody for a pre-trial conference in Christchurch District Court on June 19.

Dean Stewart Cameron, a 38-year-old roading worker, was further remanded at a brief appearance before Judge John Bisphan today.

Marie Davis murder accused to stand trial

Marie Davis murder accused Dean Stewart Cameron is to stand trial, a Christchurch court has ruled.

Cameron, a 38-year-old roading worker, is charged with the rape and murder of 15-year-old Marie, whose body was found in the Waimakariri River about two weeks after her disappearance in April.

Following a depositions hearing, Christchurch District Court today said Cameron should stand trial.

He was remanded in custody until December 12 when a trial date will be set, probably for mid-2009.

Teen Marie Davis' murder trial begins

The Crown has begun opening its case in the High Court trial of the man accused of murdering Christchurch school girl Marie Davis.

Dean Cameron is charged with the rape and murder of the 15-year-old in April last year. The Crown alleges Cameron dumped the teenager's body in the Waimakariri River.

Crown Prosecutor Kathy Bell told the court Cameron knew Marie Davis was home alone that night.

She also told the court blankets which were found with her body in the Waimakariri River were from the teen's house and from a friend of the accused's home.

Ms Bell says DNA evidence also links Cameron to the crime.

A jury of six men and six women was selected this morning.

Dean Stewart Cameron

Dean Stewart Cameron has been jailed for at least 19 years for the rape and murder of a "beautiful, intelligent and loving" 15-year-old girl.

In Christchurch's High Court on Monday Cameron, 39, received a 19-year non-parole term as part of his life sentence for murder, and a 10-year preventive detention sentence for the sexual violation of Marie Davis.
